Kwara Commissioner charges youths on good conduct as Grand-Plus holds maiden matriculation

Youths in Kwara State have been charged to shun social vices that may be inimical to their attainment of greatness and their paths to becoming leaders of the nation in the future.

The Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Science and Technology in Kwara State, Barr. Ibrahim Senior Sulyman gave the charge at the weekend, during the inaugural matriculation ceremony of
Grand-Plus College of Education, Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.

Barr. Sulyman advised the new students of the institution to take their studies seriously and to shun socio-vices in order to contribute positively to the growth of the country.

Speaking, the proprietor of the school and President of GIFAPS, Prince Ademola Abidoye said the institution is a product of his passion to serve humanity through education adding that he is committed to touching the lives of the less privileged in the society.

He said, “the college is a child of necessity, most especially in our country, where the government cannot do it all. The responsibility of supporting the government becomes necessary for our nation to progress, because education is the foundation of any societal development.

“I am delighted to inform you that I want to build my legacy in the area of education that will outlive me.”

Speaking further, the proprietor said the College is open to given scholarship to well deserving Nigerians without sentiment or discrimination.

“This dream is to educate the poor so that we can work towards an egalitarian society,” he added.
He however appreciated the Provost and the entire staff of the institution for their
untiring efforts.

The dignitaries at the event included; the Emir of Ilorin, Dr. Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari(CFR), ably represented by Alhaji Imam Muhammadu Nuru, the Balogun Aafin of Ilorin, Mr Ayoola Abdulwaheed (NCCE), Alhaja Mutiat Ashiyanbi from Federal College of Education (Special) Oyo, among others.

In his remarks, the Provost of the College, Mallam Sheu Akolade Idris who congratulated the matriculating Students, enjoined them to be law abiding throughout the period of their study.

He said, “abide by the college rules and regulations as contained in the students handbook, respect constituted authorities and stay away from all act that are adversative to peace.” Stressing that “the school has zero tolerance for cultism; it won’t be allowed to take place here at all, other social vices like hooliganism,indecent dressing, religious intolerance, fighting and bully will equally not be tolerated.”

According to him, the college has been constitutionally approved to award NCE from on the 12th of April, 2021.

He also said “we are different from other private college because of our innovative approach to teacher education, we give the teacher education a different phase, making it affordable, accessible and making it popular.

“We want to reach to the least person down there the opportunities to be educated

“We are not only into ordinary training focused, but we also get involved in entrepreneurer. There is no students of ours who comes in here that does not have additional things to do, some of them are fetched from delighted society and some of them already has handwork, given them opportunity of education is an additional to there career and future.

“We also organised entrepreneurer and education border in such a way that they won’t depends on governmental work and also becoming their own boss in their fields.

He proceeded by saying the purpose of establishing the college is to make sure that those who are neglected, those who are abandoned,those who thinks there’s no hope any longer get renewed hope from the college and that is their pride.”
