Black Sunday: 10 Dead, 17 injured in Kwara fatal accident

There was wailing in Jebba, Moro Local Government Area of Kwara State following a fatal accident that claimed nine lives and 17 others severely injured.

The accident which occurred on Jebba/Kaduna Road around 2:40 pm today, Sunday Oct. 17, 2021 involved two commercial vehicles; a six- passengers car and 18-seater hummer bus.

Speaking with National Telescope reporter, an eye witness, Mr Noah Ogo-Oluwa, said, “the accident victims in the six passengers car were returning to their destination after attending the prayer session held for a departed colleague.”

He added that the driver of the vehicle has since been rushed to hospital for treatment.
On what may have caused the accident, Mr Ogo-Oluwa blamed the driver of the six-passenger car for overspeeding and overtaking the 18-passenger bus wrongly.

He said, “lt is indeed a sad day for us here in Jebba.The death of nine travellers that include two kids is rather unfortunate. The accident could have been averted if the driver of the car was not on high speed and did not overtake the bus wrongly.”

This medium gathered that officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Jebba Command and the Nigeria Police Force, Jebba Division were later at the scene of the accident for rescue operations.

The victims of the accident were reportedly taken to Jebba Medical Centre.

Confirming the incident to our reporter, Police Public Relations Officer in Kwara State, SP Ajayi Okasanmi, disclosed that the hummer bus was coming from kwara while the other was going out when the incident occured.

“yes the incident has been confirmed. About 10 persons died.

“The accident involved a Toyota Corolla and a hummer bus. The hummer bus was coming inward Kwara while the other one was going out.” He added.
