TETFund; Saving Grace to Nigeria Tertiary Education – Tenebe

Professor Vincent Tenebe, Vice Chancellor of Taraba State University, Jalingo, has stated that the intervention of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) remains the saving grace for tertiary public education in the country, saying that it could have been worse that the present situation.

He stated this during an interview with in Jalingo recently, saying that TSU had benefitted immensely from the TETFund intervention like other tertiary institutions in the country, saying that a good number of institutions have also failed to take advantage of the opportunity to transform them and develop their respective institutions.

He added: “The worth of TETFund in this University is commendable and it is not an exception. It is all over the country, including federal and state universities. There are Universities that have failed to cash-in on the intervention. They never utilised it”

The VC commended his predecessors for making good use of the interventions to turn the institution’s landscape around, saying that it was good the fund was provided and excellent that it was prudently utilised.

“I must commend this University for prudence because it is one thing to provide the fund and another thing to utilise and above all we remain grateful to TETFund for their support to Universities all over the country like; the Colleges of Education and Polytechnics.

“So I give the fund kudos for their kind intervention in various projects in this school, I can see the handy work of TETFund everywhere in this institution,” he added.

The immediate past VC of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), also commended the intervention of the fund in other areas that includes; human development, such as, training, journalist publications, research, conference attendance, seminars and workshops.

Speaking on the number of faculties in the university, the VC presently it stood at eight in addition to the postgraduate school with courses across the entire faculties.

On his vision for the institution in the next 10 years, he said: “With the plans and strategies already put in place, I see this university as one of the best 10 top universities in Nigeria and indeed in Africa.

He added; “I am sure that this university will live up to that expectation and will help the state in realising that.”
