University of Ibadan ranked 111th University in the world, first in Nigeria

Emerging Economies University rankings has placed the University of Ibadan at the 111th, position out of 606 universities worldwide.

The report makes UI the highest placed of any Nigerian university in the 2021 ranking.

The report published on its website reveals that 13 performance indicators were used to judge the institutions worldwide on their teaching, research, knowledge transfer, and international outlook.

Peoples Gazette learnt that the report includes only countries classified by the London Stock Exchange’s FTSE Group as “advanced emerging”, “secondary emerging” or “frontier”.

While Lagos State University made 155th position to come second in the country, the University of Lagos was ranked 172 and placed third in Nigeria. Covenant University was the highest ranked private university, placing fourth in the country.

Some prominent Universities in South-Africa were among the top twenty. The University of Cape Town in South Africa was tenth on the list (first in Africa) and the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa made number 12th.

However, the University of Johannesburg in South Africa was placed at 116 positions. University of the Western Cape

South Africa also sits at the 126th position.

“Mainland China is the first territory to secure all of the top five positions in the ranking, with Tsinghua University leading the list for the third year running. It is also the most represented country in the ranking, with 91 institutions in total”, the report said.

St. Petersburg Polytechnic University of Russian was ranked the 35th university emerging economies university.

Others include the American University of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates which made the 184 position, drawing with Cairo University in Egypt.
