Kwara Govt. shuts 10 Schools over Hijab Crisis
The Kwara state Government on Friday ordered the closure of ten schools in Iloin, the state capital over crises following the use of Hijab by Muslim students.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, Mrs. Mary Kemi Adeosun said this in a statement made available to CAMPUS FOCUS on Friday, Feb. 19, 2020.
Adeosun stated that the government had to order temporary closure of the ten grant-aided schools pending the resolution on the use of hijaab at the affected schools.
According to the statement, the schools affected includes:
- C&S College Sabo Oke
- ST. Anthony College, Offa Road
- ECWA School, Oja Iya
- Surulere Baptist Secondary School
- Bishop Smith Secondary School, Agba Dam
- CAC Secondary School Asa Dam
- St. Barnabas Secondary School Sabo Oke
- St. John School Maraba
- St. Williams Secondary School Taiwo Isale
- St. James Secondary School Maraba
She explained that the closure was reached after a committee comprising representatives of the Muslim and Christian communities meets today to iron out the differences between the two communities.
She said “Further communication will be issued to inform members of the public on the development.
