Man reacts as Oyo Gov donate N10M to ICAN

A man identified as Olushegun Olapojoye has took to his twitter handle questioning the Oyo state government over the donation of N10 Million to the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN).

Earlier, the Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde who announced the donation through his twitter handle on Friday, said it is the State’s support to ICAN secretariat project.

The Oyo state governor said, “This afternoon, we received the President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Mrs Onome Joy Adewuyi and her entourage, who paid us a courtesy visit in Ibadan. Mrs Adewuyi submitted the Accountability Index Report on the Oyo State Govt for 2017 and 2018.

“I stated that we’ll continue to leverage on the relationship we have with ICAN at both the district and national levels. I revealed that we asked the ICAN Ibadan district to nominate a member for the Oyo State Anti-Corruption Agency (OYACA) which we’ll launch in the next few days We also presented a cheque to ICAN Ibadan District as Oyo State’s contribution towards their state secretariat project, and promised to continue to support the activities of ICAN in Oyo State.”

The President of the Institute, Mrs Onome Joy Adewuyi and her entourage paid to a courtesy visit to the governor where an Accountability Index Report on the Oyo State Government for 2017 and 2018 was presented to the governor.

Reacting to the Governors’ tweet, Olushegun Olapojoye said “Your excellency, why is Oyo State giving N10m to ICAN? What job did ICAN do for Oyo State?”

As at the time of filing this report, the governor is yet to respond to Olapojoye’s question.
