Degree not enough, embrace Skills – Varsity Don ….2022: Most Employee will be replaced by Robots

A lecturer at the Lagos State University (LASU), Faculty of Science Aminah Afinju has called on students to embrace skill acquisition in support of their degree.

Afinju gave the advise while delivering his motivational talk with students at the UIPATH Robotic process automation ceremony recently held at Makanjuola Hall, Main Campus,Ojo,Lagos.

According to her, obtain only degrees without skills is not enough to survive the labour market that keeps changing with new development.

“I encourage you to embrace this training whole heartedly in order to add value to yourselves.

“Obtaining degrees cannot be enough to survive in the world of work that keeps changing with new dynamics day in day out.”

In the same vein, The Chief Technical Officer, Pro- Ice Ltd, who doubles as a partner on the project, Mr. Adekunle Bamidele, encouraged students to embrace the skills and training in order to stand above their peers in the future.

Bamidele who spoke at length on how to journey with AI+ RPA into the fourth the first industrial revolution, disclosed that by 2022 most employees’ jobs will done through or replaced by artificial intelligence.

On her part, Miss Simi Osholanke, a partner on the project, spoke on the role of private sector in Human Capital Development for the fourth industrial revolution. She maintained that degrees are no longer enough for the work place in the 21st century.

According to her, young people need soft skills to excel.

“Work place is becoming simplified and only those who can deliver would survive the work place.”

While appreciating the guests and students for participating in the event, The Coordinator, LASU Career Development Centre, Dr. Ofem encouraged the students to be a good ambassador of the institution while ensuring high level of morals and academic excellence.
