The Federal government have been urged to provide research based solution in agricultural sector in order to effectively utilize knowledge and skills gathered from research works.

Professor Toyosi Yewande Tunde-Akintunde made the call while delivering her lecture at the 30th Inaugural lecture of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTCH) in Ogbomoso yesterday (Thursday).

According to her, knowledge and skills acquired from research work will solve the problems facing the agricultural sector in Nigeria.

Speaking on the topic: To have or not to have: The drying experience, Tunde-Akintunde, a Professor of  Food Engineer stated that preservation through drying helps to reduce wastage.

Citing example of Joseph in the bible, she maintained that preservation is a skill that should be acquired to save a country from famine.

“The Government should be able to provide a research base solution most especially in Agriculture in order to effectively utilize the acquired knowledge and skills gathered from the research works which will eventually solve all problems facing the dried food products in Nigeria.

“Preservations is to reduce wastage and this is for the purpose of storage.

“Joseph in Genesis 41:47-49 is a good example of someone who has knowledge and skill on how food can be preserved because he preserved for seven years to make sure that there would be abundance in times of famine. The grain was then sold in the time of famine to provide food for the whole world.”
