The Oyo State Chapter of the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS has issued a 48 hours ultimatum to the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan over its demands.

Recall that in a recent Press Release, the apex student’s body in the state demands that the Institution management reinstate the students’ Union, recall Ojo Aderemi who was rusticated, and cancel other “unjustified payments levied on students of the institution.”

In a similar Press statement, signed by Oyo State NANS Chairman, Asubiojo Olujuwon Marshal and made available to CAMPUS FOCUS, the association has called on all students and stakeholders to prepare for mass action, if their demand is not attended to in the next 48 hours.

“In the last months, the leadership of, Oyo state reviewed the events and actions that surrounded the suspension of University of Ibadan Students’ Union, Ojo Aderemi (the president of the Union), four others and very recently the ban on commercial use of bikes in the university – we sanely concluded that these are injustice and an assault to students legitimate rights and entitlements.

“Prior this conclusion, we have humbly approached the university leadership, requesting immediate reversal of the ban on commercial use of bikes, reinstatement of UI Students’ Union and the suspended student leaders

“We have honorably sought for solutions. We have written the Vice Chancellor, made media appeals, made press statements calling his attention to these demands.

“NANS, Oyo state believes we have served enough diplomacy in this matter and we are so much resolute in ensuring our demands are met.

“These demands are at the interest, wish and rights of UItes, they are not negotiable.

“We have equally reviewed the language of the Vice Chancellor and UI management. They have shown us, UItes and the general public unreadiness to meet the demands.

“NANS, Oyo state deem it fit to ensure these demands are met, we consider it necessary and important in interest of fairness and justice.

“Therefore, NANS, Oyo state issues a forty-eight(48) hours ultimatum(effective immediately) to Prof. Abel Idowu Olayinka led University of Ibadan management to reverse the ban on the commercial use of bikes, reinstate the Students’ Union, reinstate Ojo Aderemi, others and reverse various unjustifiable payments levied on University of Ibadan students.

“We hope the university management will respect this, otherwise, University of Ibadan should expect what the strength of Nigerian students is.

“NANS, Oyo state uses this opportunity to inform UItes and Nigerian students in general to get ready for mass action.”
