President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah, the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, as the pioneer Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the newly established Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, Kaduna State.
The announcement was made on Monday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who also unveiled the institution’s key principal officers.
Prof. Qurix Williams Barnabas has been named Vice-Chancellor, Sanusi Gambo Adamu as Registrar, Ibrahim Dalhat as Bursar, and Prof. Daniel Abubakar as the University Librarian.
Other members of the Governing Council include Mr. Thomas Etuh (North Central), Chief Fabian Nwaora (South East), Prof. Femi Taiwo (South West), and Zarah Bukar (North East).According to Onanuga, the appointees were chosen based on their distinguished careers, leadership experience, and commitment to education.
He added that President Tinubu has tasked them with ensuring the university becomes a center for academic excellence and research in line with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The newly appointed officials are expected to lay a solid foundation as the university prepares to admit its first set of students in September 2025.
The institution, formerly known as Nok University, was recently renamed following its takeover by the federal government.
