El-Rufai Defects to SDP, Cites APC’s Drift from Founding Principles

By Ekpenyong Emmanuel

Former Kaduna State Governor Nasiru El-Rufai has announced his departure from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to join the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

This decision, as stated in his letter titled “Onwards to the Future,” was motivated by the APC’s deviation from its original progressive values.

El-Rufai, a founding member of the APC, expressed his disappointment with the party’s current leadership, stating that they have neglected the party’s founding principles.

He noted that despite his efforts to address these concerns within the party, the situation has become unbearable, prompting his decision to seek an alternative platform.

During his eight-year tenure as governor, El-Rufai implemented various progressive policies aimed at advancing human development, education, and healthcare in Kaduna State.

However, he feels that these achievements are no longer valued within the APC, which has “castrated its organs and treated its membership with contempt” over the past two years.

El-Rufai’s defection to the SDP marks a significant shift in his political journey.

He has pledged to work towards forming a unified democratic platform to challenge the APC in future elections.

El-Rufai has also called on his supporters and like-minded individuals to join him in the SDP, with the goal of making Nigeria a beacon of pride for Africans and the Black race.
