The Ogun State Police Command has issued a strong denial of recent allegations of extortion levelled against one of its officers.
The claims, which circulated in a publication dated February 12, 2025, accused an Investigating Police Officer (IPO) of demanding money and threatening to “jail” an individual.
The Command has described the allegations as false and a deliberate attempt to damage the reputation of the force.
In a statement released on Monday, the police clarified the details of the case.
The statement explained that on January 28, 2025, a report of assault occasioning harm was lodged by a female resident of Ijoko, Rasheedat Adeshina.
Following the report, a female suspect, identified as Wasilat Afeez, was apprehended.
Medical attention was promptly provided, and the suspect was subsequently released to a member of her family, with a scheduled return date to facilitate the ongoing investigation.
The Ogun State Police Command has categorically refuted the allegation that the IPO demanded any sum of money, including the purported ₦100,000, and that threats to “jail” the suspect were made.
The Command emphasized that its role is to investigate and follow due legal processes, not to “jail” individuals.
The statement said, “The police role was strictly to investigate.”
The police command reiterated its commitment to upholding the highest standards of service and professionalism. Members of the public are urged to disregard the misleading information and rely on official channels for accurate updates.
