Kenneth Okonkwo Quits LP over Leadership Crisis

By Ekpenyong Emmanuel

Nollywood actor and politician, Kenneth Okonkwo, has announced his resignation from the Labour Party, effective February 25, 2025.

In a statement on social media, Okonkwo cited the party’s leadership crisis as the reason for his decision.

According to Okonkwo, the party’s executives at the ward, local government, and state levels have exceeded their constitutional tenure, rendering them ineffective.

He also noted that the party’s national leadership is in disarray, with no recognized leader.

Okonkwo, a lawyer, expressed disappointment with the party’s failure to conduct congresses and conventions, which has led to the current leadership crisis.

He also accused some party members of collaborating with external forces to undermine the party’s progress.

Okonkwo’s resignation is a significant blow to the Labour Party, which has been struggling to establish itself as a major force in Nigerian politics.

The party’s leadership crisis has been ongoing for several months, with various factions vying for control.
