Kebbi Allocates N54m for Mass Wedding of 300 Couples

The Kebbi State Government has approved N54 million to sponsor the mass wedding of 300 couples, scheduled for February 27.

The Chairman of the Organising Committee, Alhaji Suleiman Argungu, disclosed this to journalists in Birnin Kebbi on Sunday. The initiative is being carried out in collaboration with the Nafisa Nasir Charity Development Foundation (NANAS).

According to Argungu, committees have been set up to conduct pregnancy tests, genotype tests, HIV/AIDS screenings, and other legally required medical checks before the marriage.

He emphasized that the initiative is in line with Governor Nasir Idris’ commitment to supporting less privileged individuals in the state by making marriage more accessible.

“The administration of Governor Idris will provide N180,000 as dowry for each bride across the 21 local government areas of Kebbi State,” Argungu stated.

Additionally, the state government will furnish the couples’ rooms and provide foodstuffs to help them start their marital journey smoothly.

The mass wedding will be conducted in accordance with Islamic principles, following consultations with Islamic scholars to ensure it aligns with the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
