The Imo State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of Igboayaka Igboayaka, the President of Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC), by gunmen.
Reports indicate that seven armed men stormed his residence at Works Layout, Owerri, on Saturday, February 8, 2025, and forcefully took him away.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Henry Okoye, confirmed the incident on Sunday while responding to journalists’ inquiries.
He stated that the police have launched an investigation into Igboayaka’s whereabouts but denied knowledge of any official arrest.
Chilos Godsent, the National President of the Igbo National Council (INC), raised the alarm over Igboayaka’s abduction in a statement released on Sunday.
Since the incident, efforts by family members, friends, and members of the Ohanaeze Youth Council to contact Igboayaka have been unsuccessful, as his phone lines remain switched off.
The Igbo National Council (INC) has urged the Nigerian Police Force, Imo State Command, to swiftly identify the armed men responsible for Igboayaka’s abduction and make their findings public.
“We call on the Imo State Police Command to take immediate action in uncovering the identities of those behind this abduction and ensure the safe return of Comrade Igboayaka,” the INC demanded.
The incident has raised concerns about the security situation in Imo State, with many calling for urgent government intervention to curb rising cases of abductions and violent crimes.
