Oyo Inaugurates Committee for Alaafin’s Coronation

The Oyo State Government has inaugurated the committee responsible for the coronation of His Imperial Majesty, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade, the newly appointed Alaafin of Oyo.

In a statement from the office of the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, the inaugural meeting was chaired by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Hon. Ademola Ojo.

The committee includes key government officials such as the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Prof. Musibau Babatunde; the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Wasiu Olatunbosun; Hon. Ademola Ojo; and Prince Dotun Oyelade.

Also on the committee are three members of the Oyo State House of Assembly: Hon. Gbenga Oyekola (Atiba Constituency), Hon. Rahman Olorunpoto (Oyo East/Oyo West Constituency), and Hon. Oladeji Oparinde (Afijio Constituency).

Additionally, the committee comprises local government chairmen from Oyo West, Atiba, Oyo East, and Afijio—Hon. Akeem Olukitibi, Hon. Wahab Adetunji, Hon. Sola Oluokun, and Hon. Olufemi Aikomo, respectively. Seven family members of the new Alaafin, religious leaders, and other key stakeholders are also part of the team.

Hon. Ademola Ojo assured that preparations for the coronation are in full swing and will strictly follow the traditions of the Oyo people.

Prince Dotun Oyelade noted that under Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration, 10 Kings and 40 Baales have been coronated in the past five years.

He emphasized the governor’s expectation that all committee members remain diligent and committed to ensuring the success of the historic event.
