The Ogun State Police Command on Saturday launched the enforcement of third-party motor insurance, in line with directives from the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun.

The operation kicked off at exactly 12:00 PM, with the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, taking charge of the exercise.

Key areas in Abeokuta, including Olomore, Ibara, and OPIC Panseke, were visited to assess compliance levels among motorists.

While many drivers showed significant adherence to the insurance mandate, some were seen appealing for more time to update their vehicle insurance documentation.

However, in a bid to ensure understanding, police personnel offered education on the importance of third-party insurance, emphasizing its role in protecting accident victims and ensuring that insurance companies provide necessary compensation.

“Third-party motor insurance is a crucial safety measure that protects both motorists and the public,” CP Ogunlowo stated.

He urged vehicle owners to immediately regularize their insurance status to avoid facing penalties.

The enforcement exercise is set to continue throughout Ogun State, as authorities aim to promote road safety and uphold the rule of law.

Motorists are strongly advised to comply with the new regulations to avoid unnecessary fines and ensure safer roads for all.
