Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has assured citizens that the current administration is committed to upholding democratic values by addressing the country’s economic weaknesses, securing communities, fighting corruption, and promoting national cohesion.
Speaking at the national conference “Strengthening Nigeria’s Democracy: Pathways to good governance and political integrity”
in Abuja, Shettima emphasized that democracy, despite its imperfections, remains the best form of government. “I would like to assure Nigerians that our administration is acutely aware of many concerns over our direction and goals, particularly given the difficulties which some of our policies inevitably generate.”
Shettima acknowledged the challenges facing the country but expressed optimism about Nigeria’s future.
“We are involved in correcting many defects in our economy and approaches to securing the citizens… I am convinced that Nigeria shall rise again, answer to its full potential and lead the way to a future that has learnt lessons from a difficult past.”
The conference, organized by the African Centre for Leadership, Strategy and Development (ACLSD), brought together experts and stakeholders to discuss ways to strengthen Nigeria’s democratic system.
Other speakers, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Ghanaian Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, emphasized the importance of democratic governance and the need for leaders to prioritize the interests of their citizens.
