In a significant blow to terrorist operations in Niger State, the Air Component of Operation FANSAN YAMMA (AC OPFY) has successfully neutralized scores of bandits and dismantled their logistics base at Alawa Forest in Shiroro Local Government Area.
The operation, which took place on January 21, 2025, was the result of credible intelligence and aerial surveillance efforts that indicated an influx of armed terrorists into the forest. According to Air Vice Marshal Olusola F Akinboyewa, spokesperson for the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), ”
These criminals were linked to widespread violence, including two Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attacks on 19 December 2024 in Bassa, Shiroro LGA, which claimed several innocent lives.”
In response to these attacks, the NAF launched a three-day sustained air operation, code-named KONAN DAJI, aimed at degrading the terrorists’ capabilities and rendering the forest uninhabitable for them.
The operation involved a formation of fighter aircraft executing air interdiction missions in the area, resulting in precision strikes that neutralized numerous armed fighters and destroyed their logistics base, as confirmed by multiple secondary explosions.
The NAF has assured that it remains committed to maintaining operational dominance across the region, working closely with ground forces to eliminate all criminal elements from Alawa Forest and surrounding areas.
This effort aims to ensure lasting peace and security for communities in Niger State and beyond. ”
The NAF, in close coordination with ground forces, remains resolute in its commitment to maintaining operational dominance across the region.
Sustained efforts are underway to eliminate all criminal elements from Alawa Forest and surrounding areas, ensuring lasting peace and security for communities in Niger State and beyond,” the statement reads.
