Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has approved the recruitment of 1,800 teachers, 100 non-teaching staff, and 200 security guards to enhance the quality of education and promote safety in senior secondary schools across the state.
The Chairman of the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Mallam Bello Tauheed Abubakar, disclosed this in a statement, emphasizing the state’s commitment to bridging the teacher deficit, particularly in rural areas.
“All applicants will have to apply online. Applicants must possess a bachelor’s degree in education or a relevant subject with a teaching certificate, such as B.Ed, BSc. Ed, B.A. Ed, BSc plus PGDE, or NCE. Candidates without these qualifications will not be invited for the test,” Mallam Abubakar stated.
He added that priority would be given to teachers specializing in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), although certain subjects in Arts and Commercial disciplines would also be considered.
“The recruitment exercise is aimed at addressing the human resource gap in hinterland schools. Applicants must upload their local government certificate of origin, indicate their place of residence, and provide evidence at different stages of the exercise,” he said.
Mallam Abubakar further noted that candidates would be screened through a Computer-Based Test (CBT) followed by interviews and practical teaching sessions. Successful applicants would also undergo mandatory drug tests to uphold the government’s policy on combating drug abuse.
“Applicants who exhibit behaviors unexpected of a teacher and role model will be disqualified at any stage of the exercise,” he stressed.
He expressed appreciation for the governor’s dedication to improving public education, saying, “TESCOM sincerely commends the unrivaled commitment of the Governor to a better public sector education. This is reflected in the clear policy direction and investment of the administration since 2019.”
The application portal and other details will be announced soon, with January 31, 2025, set as the age limit for applicants.
