The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) and the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) have announced a collaborative effort to relocate the 33 Kilo Volt (KV) DC Airport Feeder and 132KV Kukwaba-Apo Transmission Line Towers along the Outer Southern Expressway. The project, which is expected to commence on January 6 and last until January 21, aims to improve the power infrastructure in Abuja and enhance the overall efficiency of the electricity distribution network.
According to the AEDC, the relocation project is necessary to ensure the safe and reliable supply of electricity to residents and businesses in the affected areas. The company explained that the current location of the transmission line towers poses a risk to the safety of the public and the stability of the power grid.
The FCDA, on its part, stated that the relocation project is part of its efforts to develop and improve the infrastructure in the Federal Capital Territory. The authority noted that the project will not only improve the power infrastructure but also enhance the aesthetic appeal of the area.
The AEDC has announced that the relocation project will result in temporary power outages in some areas of Abuja, including Lugbe and its environs, Airport Road, Kapwa, NNPC, Games Village, National Stadium, Eye Clinic, Indoor Complex, and Christ Embassy Church. Other areas that will be affected include American International School, Spring Court, American Embassy Quarters, EFCC headquarters, Coca Cola, Railway, Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Parts of Apo, Parts of Gudu, Gbazango and environs, Parts of Kubwa, Bwari and environs, Parts of Jahi, Parts of Jabi, Karu, Nyanya, Mararaba, Keffi and environs, and other parts of Abuja.
The AEDC has assured residents and businesses in the affected areas that it is working to minimize the downtime and reduce the inconvenience caused by the power outages. The company has also apologized for any disruption the project may cause and has urged residents to bear with them as they work to improve the power infrastructure in Abuja.
The collaboration between the AEDC and FCDA on the relocation project is seen as a positive step towards improving the power infrastructure in Abuja and enhancing the overall quality of life for residents and businesses in the city.
