In a significant display of optimism, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has warmly welcomed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, during his official visit to Enugu State on Saturday.

The visit is seen as an important moment for the relationship between the federal government and the Igbo community, as it comes at a time when many are hopeful for a shift in governmental attitudes towards the region.

Nze Ozichukwu Fidelis Chukwu, President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, expressed the sentiments of the group in a statement, stating,

“We are immensely delighted over the gradual attitudinal change of the federal government towards the Igbo. This visit by President Tinubu is a pivotal moment that could solidify his legacy in the hearts of Ndigbo, especially if he orders the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.”

Chukwu highlighted the significance of equity and social justice for national unity, remarking,

“National peace, unity, patriotism, and sustainable economic development are products of equity and social justice. There can be no complacency in the face of existential threats such as marginalization and insecurity.”

The Ohanaeze leadership expressed hopes that President Tinubu’s visit would mark the beginning of a new era of collaboration between the federal government and the South East region, especially following recent initiatives that have included the establishment of the South East Economic Commission and key appointments of Igbo leaders to federal positions.

However, Chukwu commended the innovative efforts of Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, the Governor of Enugu State, for his transformative infrastructure projects that have been implemented within a short timeframe.

He noted, “We appreciate his innovative approach to development, including the establishment of smart schools and the rehabilitation of roads,” praising the governor for his focus on improving the quality of life for residents.

The statement also recognized the contributions of Senator Hope Odidika Uzodimma, the Chairman of the South East Governors Forum, for the installation of life-saving Night Landing Equipment at the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport in Owerri, which enhances air travel safety in the region.

As President Tinubu embarks on his visit, Ohanaeze Ndigbo has extended wishes for a safe and joyous trip, promising him the renowned hospitality of the Igbo people.

This visit is anticipated to not only strengthen ties between the federal government and the Igbo community but also pave the way for meaningful dialogue and collaboration moving forward.

The hopes of many are that this engagement will lead to lasting improvements in federal relations and address long-standing issues affecting the Igbo people.
