…Wike Reveals How He Stopped Atiku, Secondus’ Ambitions

Former Senator representing Rivers South-East, Magnus Abe, has accused politicians supporting Governor Fubara of doing so to further their personal political ambitions, particularly to bring down the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
Abe stated this during the Rivers State stakeholders’ programme hosted by Wike in celebration of the New Year on Friday.
He emphasised that the politicians backing Fubara were not doing so out of love for Rivers State or the governor but rather to use him as a tool to undermine Wike.
“Nobody is with Governor Fubara because they love Rivers State or Governor Fubara,” Abe stated.
“They are with him because they see him as a means to achieve their political goal — to bring down the FCT Minister. In the last election, everyone in Rivers State did anti-party. With all due respect, I too did anti-party. I did not allow the SDP candidate to come and campaign here, and when he came to my house, I made it clear I was with Tinubu. Oga (Wike), you too did anti-party. You were very clear that you were with Tinubu, not the PDP presidential candidate. The current governor also did anti-party; he was with you and did not support the PDP presidential candidate.”
Abe pointed out that many of the politicians supporting Fubara today had engaged in anti-party activities during the elections, supporting candidates from other parties.
“The PDP leaders supporting Fubara today didn’t support the PDP governorship candidate, Governor Fubara. They supported the APC candidate. Likewise, the APC leaders did not support their presidential candidate but backed the PDP presidential candidate. So, everyone did anti-party, but the only one people keep talking about is the one done by Nyesom Wike, and that’s because he succeeded, and others failed.”
Abe cautioned Governor Fubara, saying, “These politicians are pursuing their own interests. If tomorrow, you are no longer able to advance their agenda—to bring down Wike—they will abandon you and move on to someone else. My advice to you, sir, is to know that these people are not with you out of love for Rivers State. Those who truly love Rivers State will show it through their actions, not by plotting to bring down Wike.”
Abe concluded by urging Rivers State politicians to unite for the good of the state, advising Fubara to collaborate with true patriots before it’s too late to save the state from impending challenges.
“No governor can on his own declare the seats of legislators vacant. Work with other patriots to save the state.”
Meanwhile, addressing the gathering, the FCT Minister, Wike, revealed how he deliberately worked against the presidential ambitions of Atiku Abubakar and the removal of Uche Secondus as the chairman of the PDP.
Wike said, “When I said Secondus, you will not be chairman again. Yes, I did it. In 2023, they said Atiku was coming, and I said, ‘Where?’ I was offered everything, but I told the PDP I would not support Atiku because I am not a second-class citizen. I must support the South to produce a president, even though I knew their offer was fake.”
The FCT Minister also spoke about his unbroken record of electoral victories, saying, “I ran for the local government election in 1999, and up until today, I have never lost an election. Nobody I have supported has lost either. I have no regret in supporting Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Wherever you are, pray for Mr. President. We will continue to support him. It will be better this year. Mr. President is making tough decisions, but they are for the country’s interest.”
In response to allegations made by former Rivers Governor Dr. Peter Odili, Wike denied claims that he was turning Rivers State into his personal estate. “Not that I have converted Rivers State into a personal estate. Based on the documentary you watched, is there anywhere they mentioned my family? Where did I come to convert Rivers into my personal estate? The person trying to convert Rivers into a personal estate is you,” he remarked.
