The Kogi State Government has announced that the early payment of December salaries on December 14 is to help civil servants plan and enjoy their Christmas and New Year holidays. The government emphasized its commitment to ensuring workers’ welfare in recognition of their hard work throughout the year.
Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mr. Kingsley Fanwo, highlighted that Governor Usman Ododo approved the early disbursement to allow workers to prepare adequately for the holidays. “The Kogi State Government has paid the December 2024 salaries today to enable civil servants to begin the preparation for their holidays in earnest and to enable them to enjoy the Yuletide,” Fanwo stated.
He also noted that similar steps were taken during the Sallah celebration to support workers in enjoying festive periods with their families. The Commissioner reiterated the administration’s dedication to prioritizing the welfare of state employees as a way of acknowledging their contributions to Kogi’s development.
Civil servants in the state have lauded the initiative. Mr. Segun Adegboyega remarked that the early payment was expected given the governor’s consistent support for workers’ welfare. “We knew the governor would pay before Christmas, but we didn’t know it would be this early,” he said.
Another civil servant, Hajara Musa, expressed gratitude for the timely gesture, describing Governor Ododo as “Mr. Alert.” She praised his commitment to the workforce, adding, “The civil servants are grateful for having a humane governor who prioritizes our needs.
”Kogi State is also recognized as one of the first to implement the new minimum wage, further demonstrating its commitment to its workforce.
