A journalist with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Mr. Gregory Mmaduakolam, who was abducted on Thursday, December 5, in Owerri, Imo State, has been released by his captors.
Mr. Mmaduakolam was freed in the early hours of Saturday, December 7, following the payment of a ransom by his family.
Reports indicate that the kidnappers initially demanded N50 million for his release. However, the exact amount paid as ransom has not been disclosed as of the time of this report.
The journalist was abducted at Irete in Owerri West Local Government Area, where he had gone to inspect a piece of land.
Efforts to reach Mr. Mmaduakolam for comments were unsuccessful, but his release has brought relief to his family and colleagues.
The police in Imo State are yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.
