KWASU Inducted 61 MLS into MLSCN

Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, has inducted 61 newly qualified Medical Laboratory Scientists from the 2023/2024 academic session into the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN).

The event, which marked the institution’s 6th oath-taking and induction ceremony, was held on the university campus.

The Registrar of MLSCN, Professor Tosan Erhabor, who presided over the ceremony, commended KWASU for securing full accreditation to run the Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science (BMLS) program for the next five years.

He announced the Council’s approval to increase the university’s admission quota for the program to 120 students.

“Let’s also congratulate you on your full accreditation to run the Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science (BMLS) program for the next five years. It is a glorious accomplishment which should not be taken for granted. The Vice Chancellor, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, and his team have played pivotal roles in this accomplishment, and we appreciate them,” Erhabor stated.

The Registrar reaffirmed MLSCN’s commitment to supporting KWASU in its mission to train competent Medical Laboratory Scientists while urging the inductees to maintain high standards of professionalism.

“Working with the Department of Medical Laboratory Science has been seamless and encouraging so far, indicating your commitment to the high standards MLSCN is known for. I urge you to keep up the efforts, and the benefits will follow,” he added.

In his remarks, KWASU’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, lauded the Kwara State Government for converting the Ilorin General Hospital into the Kwara State University Teaching Hospital (KWASUTH).

He described the development as a game-changer for clinical training in the institution.

“We remain committed to producing skilled professionals to strengthen the country’s healthcare sector, and with the continued support of the Kwara State Government, KWASU will maintain its focus on excellence,” Professor Jimoh assured.

He also congratulated the inductees, urging them to use their knowledge to make meaningful contributions to society.

“Of the 61 inductees, 24 graduated with Second Class Upper degrees, 36 with Second Class Lower degrees, and one with a Third-Class degree.”

The ceremony underscores KWASU’s growing reputation as a hub for excellence in medical and health education in Nigeria.
