Tragedy as Zamfara road travellers lost their lives in truck explosion by bandits.
The incident occured on Wednesday, along the Dansadau-Gusau Road, Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
A resident of Yar Tasha village who pleaded anonymity, discloses to press men that the bandits planted the explosives after a community road maintenance exercise.
“We recently worked on the road, and the bandits used the opportunity to place the device at one of the spots,” he said.
Eyewitnesses reported that the vehicle, a Volkswagen Golf 3, triggered the explosive, leading to a devastating blast.
Another local resident, Abdullahi Dansadau narrated the number of deaths at the time rescue.
Abdullahi said, “The explosion killed three people and injured eight others. Six bodies have since been recovered, and the vehicle was completely destroyed.”
The injured victims were rushed to Dansadau General Hospital, though their conditions remain unclear. Security forces, including soldiers and police, have been dispatched to the scene to investigate the incident.
Lt. Col. Abubakar Abdullahi, Coordinator of the Joint Task Force North West Operation Fansar Yamma, acknowledging the attack, called it a “dangerous and evolving strategy” by the bandits.
He assured the public that efforts are underway to apprehend the perpetrators and enhance security in the area.
Meanwhile, speaking with the Zamfara State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Yazid Abubakar, asserted that the exact number of casualties and injuries had yet to be confirmed but assured that investigations are ongoing.
The situation highlights the urgent need for a robust and coordinated response to curb banditry in the region.
