By Olumide Olusegun

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has reassured its citizens that there will be no strike in the state, despite the nationwide strike called by the national body set to begin on Monday.

The governor stated this through the State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, in a statement on Saturday.

He stated that ongoing negotiations between the state government and the leadership of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) are in their final stages and will soon be implemented.

Oyelade emphasised that both parties have full confidence in the sincerity of the negotiations and in the Oyo State Government’s track record of fulfilling its promises.

He also clarified that Governor Seyi Makinde did not make the announcement of the ₦80,000 minimum wage without prior consultations with Labour leaders, adding that the wage increase will be implemented as soon as the negotiations over the consequential adjustment are concluded.

The Commissioner highlighted that the Makinde administration has been worker-friendly, noting the regular payment of salaries and pensions on the 25th of every month and its record of large-scale recruitment to expand the workforce across various sectors.

Oyelade further assured workers in the state that they can expect the timely payment of December salaries and the 13th-month bonus, a tradition that has been upheld by Governor Makinde’s administration since its inception.
