By Ekpenyong Emmanuel

Edo State civil and public servants erupted in celebration as Governor Monday Okpebholo announced the approval of a 13th-month salary for workers. Additionally, the Governor reaffirmed his commitment to offering automatic employment to First-Class graduates of Edo origin from universities nationwide and abroad. This policy aims to inspire Edo youths and attract exceptional talent to the state’s workforce.

The announcement was made through a press statement issued by Fred Itua, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, and further elaborated by the Head of Service, Dr. Anthony Okungbowa, during a briefing at the Government House in Benin City.

Dr. Okungbowa highlighted the Governor’s Graduate Development Programme (GDP), designed to recruit and retain top-tier talent within the state’s civil and public service. “Mr. Governor believes this initiative will strengthen the workforce by integrating First-Class graduates and other high achievers into the system,” he stated.

He added that participants in the programme would gain experience across various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) and potentially the private sector, ensuring a well-rounded skillset to benefit Edo State’s development.

Governor Okpebholo’s commitment to improving workers’ welfare and enhancing the state’s talent pool has positioned Edo State as a leader in human capital development among sub-nationals. The initiative also seeks to retain these talents by offering competitive opportunities and addressing the challenges of employee retention.

Dr. Okungbowa urged all First-Class graduates of Edo origin, particularly those who graduated from 2020 onward, to take advantage of the programme, emphasizing the government’s dedication to creating a sustainable system. The policy is further supported by partnerships with Edo Innovate to ensure its continued success.

Edo State’s leadership under Governor Okpebholo continues to pave the way for innovation and excellence, fostering a thriving environment for its workforce and citizens.
