OndoDecides2024: INEC Declares Lucky Aiyedatiwa Winner of Governorship Election

Lucky Aiyedatiwa has been declared the winner of the Ondo State governorship election held on Saturday, November 16, 2024.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced that Aiyedatiwa, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, won in all 18 Local Government Areas of the state.

In the final tally, Aiyedatiwa secured 366,781 votes, defeating his closest rival, Agboola Ajayi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who polled 117,845 votes.

The results were officially declared by the State Returning Officer, Prof. Olayemi Akinwumi, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Lokoja.

Prof. Akinwumi stated:
“Ayedatiwa Lucky Orimisan of the APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and governor-elect.”

Election Highlights:

  • Total valid votes: 497,077
  • Rejected votes: 11,886
  • Total votes cast: 508,963

Aiyedatiwa’s victory was comprehensive, as he triumphed in significant strongholds, including Idanre, where the PDP’s deputy governorship candidate hails from.

The APC candidate also overcame allegations of irregularities raised by the PDP regarding incidents in Ofosun Oniseri and other areas.

Before the final declaration, results from all 18 Local Government Areas were presented, with Aiyedatiwa dominating across the board. Below are some results:

  • Ifedore LGA:
  • APC: 14,157
  • PDP: 5,897
  • Akure South LGA:
  • APC: 32,969
  • PDP: 17,926
  • Okitipupa LGA:
  • APC: 26,811
  • PDP: 10,233

Party agents, including those of the PDP, signed the final result sheets, affirming the election’s credibility. Ayedatiwa will now serve as the governor of Ondo State, with calls for collaboration across political divides.
