I’m Not Afraid of EFCC Probe – Obaseki

By Chuks Peter, DELTA

Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has expressed confidence in facing any investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) once his term concludes next week. Speaking in Abuja at the EdoBEST National Results-Sharing Session, Obaseki dismissed concerns about potential arrest, stating he has “nothing to hide.”

“I hear the EFCC will pick me up after my tenure,” Obaseki said. “Wherever they keep me, I’ll spend my time doing research. My administration has achieved much that I believe will stand the test of time in Edo State.”

Obaseki, who has served since 2016, attributed the petitions against him to political opponents seeking revenge. “People in this country thrive on vendetta and bitterness,” he noted. “Many of those in opposition to me are driven by jealousy and can’t show the kind of achievements we’ve made in the past eight years.”

The governor emphasized his commitment to reform, especially in improving the state’s civil service. “Reforming the bureaucracy and focusing on the people has been a priority,” he said. “I am not worried, and if they call me in, I am ready. The records of what we’ve accomplished are clear.”

Obaseki concluded with a call for public officials to prioritize citizens’ welfare rather than engaging in political conflicts. “We have a unique opportunity to change Nigeria for the better; let’s focus on solutions, not vendetta.”
