Why Tinubu Approved Release of “Hungry” Minors Charged with Treason – Shettima

Vice President Kashim Shettima disclosed that President Bola Tinubu ordered the release of minors facing treason charges out of compassion.

Shettima made this statement on Tuesday while receiving the released minors at the Presidential Villa, following the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, dropping the charges against them.

Shettima noted that there was undeniable video and photographic evidence of actions taken by some protesters, shared by the individuals involved.

He expressed regret over the significant financial losses the nation incurred—more than ₦300 billion—due to damages and the disruption of economic activities linked to the protests.

“The President, as Commander in Chief, instructed the release on humanitarian grounds, despite the incontrovertible evidence.

As a father to the nation, he is giving these young men a second chance to grow into responsible citizens who can contribute positively to a better Nigeria,” Shettima stated.

He urged the youths to avoid being exploited for violence or destructive purposes, adding that private businesses suffered heavily from the protests.

Shettima encouraged the released minors to use this opportunity to rebuild their lives and contribute to society positively.

Addressing governors and other representatives, he called for unity, stressing that the bond of citizenship in the Federal Republic of Nigeria is stronger than any divisions.

He appealed for the youths’ rehabilitation and reintegration, aiming to ensure they become responsible members of their communities.
