Abia PDP Elects Abraham Amah As New State Chairman

The Abia State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has elected Elder Abraham Amah as its new state chairman.

Amah, who previously served as the party’s Vice Chairman and Acting Publicity Secretary in Abia, secured 1,264 votes, defeating his closest opponent, Olugu Kalu, who received 395 votes.

The election, held in Umuahia, the state capital, also saw James Okpara, Godwin Okoro, Kingsley Imaga, Olugu Kalu Ogba, and Chief Ukwu Rocks Emma contesting for various positions within the party.

Following his victory, Elder Amah expressed gratitude to party stakeholders and delegates for their support and pledged to unify and strengthen the party.

He emphasized his commitment to reconciling with aggrieved members and re-engaging with the vision of the party’s founders. “This is a new dawn for Abia PDP,” Amah stated.

Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State and the returning officer for the election, commended the delegates for conducting themselves peacefully, which allowed the congress to proceed smoothly. “What happened here today shows that we are ready to reclaim power in 2027,” Ewhrudjakpo remarked.

Senator Austin Akobundu, representing Abia Central Senatorial District, praised the transparent and peaceful conduct of the congress, underscoring that the election’s objective was to foster unity within the party. “The winner wins for everybody,” he added, urging the new leaders to be inclusive.

Chief John Okiyi-Kalu, a former Commissioner for Information in the state, also advised the newly elected state executive members to focus on reuniting with those who had previously left the party.

He emphasized that the election marked the start of a new era for the Abia PDP, highlighting the importance of restoring confidence and unity within the party.

This successful congress is seen as part of the Abia PDP’s broader efforts to strengthen its base and prepare for future elections.
