The Dorcas Oke Hope Alive Initiative (DOHAL) has honored the legacy of Dorcas Oke, daughter of Bishop Francis Wale Oke, by marking her 40th posthumous birthday with a powerful call for African youths to embrace leadership.
The annual DOHAL lecture, held on Monday at Precious Cornerstone University, Garden of Victory, carried the theme: “African Youths: Leaders of Tomorrow or Leaders from Today.” The event emphasized the urgent need for young Nigerians to redefine their leadership potential and actively engage in nation-building.
Prominent speakers, including Prof. Dapo Asaju and tech entrepreneur Iyinoluwa Aboyeji, highlighted core qualities necessary for effective leadership, such as resilience, commitment, perseverance, and integrity. These, they argued, are essential traits for African youths to embody as they prepare to take on future leadership roles.
Over the past 21 years, DOHAL has empowered numerous individuals and communities nationwide. Bishop Mike Bamidele and other stakeholders expressed confidence that the lecture would inspire young Nigerians to rise to leadership challenges.
Bishop Francis Wale Oke, founder of The Sword of the Spirit Ministries, explained that DOHAL’s mission focuses on enhancing lives, particularly among youths, through education and empowerment initiatives. By fostering responsible leadership and offering skill-building opportunities, DOHAL is actively working to secure a brighter future for African youth.
In celebration of Dorcas’ 40th posthumous birthday, 40 young individuals received training in various skills, along with a grant of ₦100,000 each to support their journey. The event was well-attended, bringing together Corps Members, students, and youth groups, all paying tribute to DOHAL’s significant impact on society.
