The Acting Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (Unizik), Awka, has announced a reduction in several fees for students, including General Studies (GS) fees, ICT fees, orientation fees, and transcript fees.
The Vice Chancellor cited the challenging economic situation in the country and acknowledged the resilience of parents who continue to support their children’s education despite hardships.
This was disclosed in a statement made available to NATIONAL TELESCOPE, by the President, Unizik’s Student Union Government, Samuel Eze, on Wednesday.
According to the statement, the Acting VC described the reduction as a palliative measure aimed at easing students’ burdens and reaffirmed her commitment to making student life more affordable.
“A total of N9,500 was slashed based on the
following recommendations. Students shall be charged only once for all ICT services.
“Consequently, the following ICT fees and charges shall be abolished; App fee -N2,000; Duplicate Orientation fee- N3,500; The general studies publications fee was reviewed downwards from N12,000 to N8,000 and There should be a 50% reduction on all transcript fees.
“Submitting the recommendations to the Acting Vice Chancellor, the Committee
emphasized the need to domicile the transcript processing platform in the university to be managed by the staff of the university.
“The Acting Vice Chancellor expressed her deep conviction that these ICT fees and charges cut will be in the interest of the university and the students and their parents.”
Meanwhile, the Unizik student community has expressed immense gratitude for this ag VC’s gesture, describing it as a “compassionate decision.”
The SUG President added, “At the 85th NANS National Senate Congress held at Niger Delta University in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, the Student Union Government (SUG) President, Giant Comrade Samuel Eze (known as the “Messiah of Unizik”), publicly applauded the Vice Chancellor.
“He urged the Senate to pass a vote of confidence in her and requested that the Senate President lead a delegation to formally commend the Acting Vice Chancellor at the Awka campus.”
