A joint meeting of the Northern Governors Forum and the Northern Traditional Rulers Council is currently underway in Kaduna, focused on addressing the region’s significant security and developmental issues.
The gathering at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim Government House includes Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa. The Chairman of the Northern States Governors’ Forum, Muhammadu Yahaya, emphasized the importance of united efforts in confronting the region’s challenges, which include insecurity, economic hardship, environmental degradation, and youth unrest.
Yahaya stated, “Our collective resolve is being tested by ongoing challenges. However, our unity and commitment to the prosperity of the people remain our greatest source of strength.”
He outlined the various threats facing the region, including terrorism, banditry, kidnappings, and poverty, stressing the necessity of collaboration with the Federal Government and relevant agencies to provide essential support to affected communities.
Proposed solutions include enhancing security measures, implementing recommendations from the Coalition of Northern Group’s Security Committee, investing in education and job creation, and promoting sustainable agricultural practices.
Governor Yahaya also called for deeper cooperation in infrastructure, education, and trade, urging a shared vision for a prosperous Northern Nigeria.
Kaduna Governor Uba Sani welcomed attendees and reiterated the commitment to peaceful coexistence and shared prosperity, commending President Bola Tinubu’s initiatives against insecurity.
The meeting included participation from several regional governors, reinforcing the collective aim of addressing pressing challenges in the North.
