The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kano State emerged victorious, winning all 44 local government chairmanship seats in the election held on Saturday, along with all 484 councillorship seats.
While announcing the results at the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission’s (KANSIEC) headquarters, the commission’s chairman, Prof. Sani Lawal Malumfashi, confirmed NNPP’s sweeping victory.
“The NNPP has secured all available seats, from chairmanship to councillorship, across the state’s 44 local governments,” he stated.
Prof. Malumfashi emphasized the large voter turnout and peaceful nature of the election, which saw participation from six political parties—AA, AAC, Accord, ADC, APM, and NNPP.
“The peaceful conduct of this election reflects its public acceptability in terms of credibility, fairness, and transparency,” he noted.
He went on to commend all stakeholders involved in the process. “KANSIEC appreciates the security agencies, media, political leaders, civil society groups, religious and community leaders, and youth and women organizations for their vital contributions to grassroots democracy in Kano.”
Prof. Malumfashi also expressed gratitude to parents and young people for resisting attempts to disrupt the election. “The maturity shown by Kano residents is commendable,” he added.
Certificates will be issued to the newly elected local government chairmen and councillors on Monday, marking the official start of their tenure.
