The Defence Headquarters has announced that troops from Operation Udoka have arrested a suspected founding member of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Eastern Security Network (ESN) in a series of operations across Imo and Abia states.
During a press briefing on Thursday, October 24, 2024, Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, disclosed the arrest of Pius Iguh, describing him as a key figure in the IPOB organization responsible for activities in the Orsu area of Imo State.
“In the South-East, the troops of Operation Udoka, Forward Operational Base (FOB), Orsu, in a sting operation, apprehended a terrorist leader belonging to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its Eastern Security Network (ESN) terrorist group known as Mr. Pius Iguh.
He is an IPOB founding father responsible for the Orsu general area in Imo State,” stated Major Gen Buba.
In a separate development, troops from FOB Amaruku also conducted a raid on the location of an IPOB commander in Mbano, Abia State.
“The raid was successful and led to the arrest of the commander identified as Emmanuel Onwugu,” he added.
Furthering their crackdown on criminal elements in the region, security forces also arrested Ifeanyi Rock, a “notorious cult leader,” and ten of his associates in the Arochukwu area of Abia State.
The Defence Headquarters emphasized that these operations, carried out in collaboration with other security forces, are part of ongoing efforts to enhance stability and security in the South-East.
