Lagos Pedestrian Bridge Collapse

Commuters faced significant delays on Thursday after the Five-Star pedestrian bridge along the bustling Oshodi-Apapa Expressway partially collapsed around 6:30 a.m., blocking one side of the road.

Fortunately, there were no casualties, but the incident caused panic as commuters worried about possible safety risks in the area.

According to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), preliminary investigations indicated that an articulated truck transporting heavy equipment had collided with the bridge earlier, which weakened the structure, leading to its eventual collapse.

To ensure public safety, LASEMA cordoned off the bridge and began removing parts of the damaged structure.

Heavy-duty equipment was deployed to clear the road and prevent secondary accidents.

As of the latest update, recovery operations were ongoing, with LASEMA focusing on removing all remaining debris to restore full access to the road for commuters.
