Abia PDP Stakeholders Back Damagum-led NWC, Demand Credible Elections Ahead Congresses

A group of concerned stakeholders from Abia North has called on the leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State to ensure that the upcoming Local Government and State congresses are conducted in a free, fair, and credible manner.

The Stakeholders in a communique issued during a meeting in Umuahia, expressed confidence in the National Working Committee (NWC) led by Ambassador Iliya Damagum for setting a date for the long-delayed congresses, which had been stalled due to internal party issues.

The group applauded the leadership of the Caretaker Committee, headed by Rt. Hon. Allwell Asiforo Okere and Secretary Ken Onochie Madubuike, for their roles in overseeing the congress preparations.

They commended the decision to zone the Chairmanship to Abia North and emphasized the qualifications of the local aspirants, urging that the choice of the Chairman be left to the party members.

The stakeholders recognized the unity among the six Chairmanship aspirants from Abia North, noting their campaigns have been conducted without hostility.

They urged the Caretaker Committee to ensure that all candidates who have purchased Chairmanship forms are allowed to compete, rejecting any exclusion under the guise of micro-zoning, asserting that all aspirants are qualified.

The group called for the congresses to be conducted transparently, allowing delegates to vote freely, thereby maintaining the democratic values the PDP is known for in Abia.

They encouraged all party members to act peacefully and thoughtfully, prioritizing candidates with strong reputations to uphold the party’s legacy as Nigeria’s most successful political party.
