Hardship: Kwara Gov Reintroduces Free Transport for Resident

In an effort to ease the financial burden of ongoing economic reforms, the Kwara State Government has reintroduced free transportation for residents.

The initiative, spearheaded by Governor Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq, is aimed at cushioning the impact of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic policies.

The new transport scheme was announced by the Ministry of Business, Innovation, and Technology, which stated that residents can now travel for free on several routes within the state.

These routes include Post Office to Tanke, Unilorin, Oja, Eyenkorin, Amayo, Mandate, Oyun, UITH, and Okeose, among others. Previously, fares for these destinations ranged between N300 and N500, with a journey from Post Office to Tanke-Unilorin costing N500, while trips to Oyun-UITH-Okeose were priced at N400.

Speaking on the initiative, Governor AbdulRazaq said, “Our government remains committed to providing relief to our people during these tough times. This is not the first time we’ve had to step in to assist our residents with free transport. We did it during the fuel scarcity and currency swap crises, and we are doing it again now.”

Residents have expressed relief at the return of the palliative. A student from the University of Ilorin who regularly commutes from the Post Office to Unilorin stated, “This free transport is a big relief for me and many others. It saves us a lot of money, especially in these times when everything is more expensive.”

The governor’s administration has consistently introduced such palliative measures to mitigate the effects of national economic policies.

Since President Tinubu’s government began its economic reforms, AbdulRazaq’s government has provided both subsidized and free transport services to the residents of Kwara State.

The initiative is expected to benefit thousands of people across the state, especially students, workers, and market traders who rely heavily on public transportation.

Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on New Media, Olayinka Fafoluyi, confirmed that the free transport scheme is part of the government’s broader strategy to alleviate economic hardship in Kwara.

“This is a governor who cares deeply about the welfare of his people,” Fafoluyi remarked.
