Organizers of the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protests have expressed their determination to continue their fight against the Bola Tinubu administration’s perceived anti-poor policies.
This resolve comes after the arrest of 22 protesters during a demonstration in Lagos marking the fourth anniversary of the #EndSARS protests.
Among those arrested include, National Coordinator of the Take It Back Movement, Juwon Sanyaolu, and founder of the Creative Change Centre, Omole Ibukun.
Also, spokesperson for the Youth Rights Campaign, and Hassan Soweto, faced arrest, alongside others like Ilesanmi Kehinde and Uadiale Kingsley.
Reports indicate that the detained individuals were held at the Lagos State SCID facility in Panti, Yaba.
Following a public outcry, the police eventually released the protesters, but only after allegations of severe mistreatment surfaced.
Confirming their release, Soweto recounted the experience, stating, “We were released after the Commissioner of Police intervened, though he was present during the brutalization and assaults. Many of us are injured. One comrade had blood pouring from his nose, and others faced sexual harassment. We had to improvise to preserve the dignity of a comrade who was stripped naked.”
Soweto condemned the police actions as a violation of their rights, especially on a day meant to honour victims of past brutality.
“This cannot be tolerated. We seek justice and will not stop until we achieve it. The assault will not deter us from opposing Tinubu’s anti-poor policies. The struggle continues until we succeed,” he affirmed.
The #EndBadGovernance movement remains steadfast in its mission, promising to persist in its protests for justice and accountability.
