Kaduna LG poll: APC Wins 23 LGAs, 255 Council Seats

The Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission has confirmed the results of the 2024 Local Government Elections held on October 19, declaring the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the leading party in the polls.

Commission Chairman, Hajiya Mohammed, commended the people of Kaduna for turning out in large numbers to exercise their democratic rights. “We appreciate the voters who participated in the election,” she said.

The elections saw participation from eight political parties, with the APC winning 23 chairmanship positions and 255 councilorship positions across the state. “By the power vested in the Commission, I hereby confirm the results collected and returned by the returning officers,” she stated.

Hajiya Mohammed detailed the local governments where the APC secured victories, including Birnin-Gwari, Chikun, Igabi, Ikara, Jaba, Jema’a, Kachia, Kaduna North, and Kaduna South. Other areas of APC success included Kagarko, Kajuru, Kaura, Kauru, Kubau, Kudan, Lere, Makarfi, Sabon Gari, Sanga, Soba, Zango-Kataf, and Zaria.

The breakdown of the councilorship positions reveals that the ruling party cleared all 255 seats as confirmed by electoral officials. The local governments and their respective wards included: Birnin Gwari (11), Chikun (12), Giwa (11), Igabi (12), Ikara (10), Jaba (10), Jema’a (12), Kachia (12), Kaduna North (12), Kaduna South (13), Kagarko (10), Kajuru (10), Kaura (10), Kauru (11), Kubau (11), Kudan (10), Lere (11), Makarfi (10), Sabon Gari (11), Sanga (11), Soba (11), Zango-Kataf (11), and Zaria (13).

“The peaceful and orderly conduct of the election is commendable,” she emphasized, noting it reflects the commitment of Kaduna State voters to democracy.

The election featured candidates from eight political parties: ADC, AAC, APGA, LP, NNPP, PDP, PRP, and YPP. The Commission confirmed that local government returning officers declared results and submitted reports in accordance with the law.

Governor Uba Sani, after casting his vote at the LEA Kawo polling unit O47, expressed satisfaction with the election process, calling it generally free, fair, and peaceful. He noted that only minor issues were reported in three polling units. The governor urged voters to maintain peace and reminded them that every election has winners and losers.
