95 People Dead, 50 Hospitalised in Jigawa Tanker Explosion

A tragic incident in Majiya village, Taura Local Government Area of Jigawa State, has resulted in over 90 fatalities and more than 50 people hospitalized after a petrol tanker explosion early Wednesday morning.

The explosion occurred around 12:30 AM when the tanker, en route from Port Harcourt to Nguru in Yobe State, lost control and overturned.

Villagers began scooping fuel from the tanker when it ignited.

Jigawa State Police spokesman, DSP Lawal Shiisu Adams, confirmed the details, stating: “Today, a petrol tanker lost control in Majiya, causing its contents to spill into the gutters.

Unfortunately, many villagers were involved in fetching the fuel when it caught fire.”

As a result, 95 lives have been lost, and 50 individuals are currently receiving medical treatment.
