The Pioneer Chairman of the Fresh Angle International Newspaper Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Mrs. Yvonne Suowari, expressed her enthusiasm and commitment as she assumed leadership of the newly inaugurated executive team.
During the inauguration ceremony held in Warri, Delta State, she noted the pivotal role journalists play as custodians of truth, particularly in combating misinformation.
“As journalists, we are the watchdogs of society. Our role has never been more critical, especially in a time where misinformation spreads like wildfire. I am committed to fighting for our freedom to do what we do best—telling the stories that need to be told,” Suowari stated.
She further pledged to be a voice for her colleagues, advocating for their rights and working to elevate the standards of journalism in the union.
Delta State NUJ Chairman, Comrade Churchill Oyowe, also spoke at the event, acknowledging the inauguration as a major milestone for the union. He highlighted the significance of leadership, not just as a title, but as a source of inspiration and guidance for others.
“Leadership is not merely about holding a title; it is about being a beacon of hope and a source of inspiration. Those elected today have been entrusted with the responsibility to guide and elevate our collective mission,” Oyowe noted.
Oyowe praised the selection process and urged the newly inaugurated leaders to lead with empathy, actively listening to their members and addressing their concerns.
“To the new leadership, remember that your duty is to carry your members along, listen to their voices, and address their concerns with empathy. Leadership thrives on the support and cooperation of its members,” he said.
He also called on all members of the Fresh Angle Chapel to actively engage with the new leadership, stressing that their collective efforts would determine the chapel’s success. “Let us embrace this new chapter with optimism and determination, knowing that the progress of Fresh Angle Chapel lies in our collective hands,” Oyowe added.
The newly inaugurated seven-member executive team includes Chimaobi Nzoromob as Vice Chairman, Onyeka Lilian Adudu as Secretary, Ukah Chijioke Celestine as Assistant Secretary, Inana Anna Okeoghene as Treasurer, Victor C. Umukoro as Financial Secretary, and Atu Lucky as Auditor.
