Maritime Staff Honour Tompolo

The staff of Nigeria Maritime University (NMU), Okerenkoko, have honoured High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, with an Award of Excellence for his remarkable contributions towards the institution’s growth and development.

Speaking at the award presentation, Mr. Iseru Ebike, a lecturer at the university and the team leader of the staff delegation, praised Tompolo for his dedication to the university’s progress. 

He said, “Your numerous intervention projects have significantly advanced our university,” Ebike said. 

“We owe you a great deal of gratitude for the strategic assistance that has helped alleviate the challenges we’ve faced over the years.”

Ebike highlighted Tompolo’s foresight in creating a world-class institution. “When others were investing abroad, you chose to build the foundation of what is now Nigeria’s premier Maritime University. 

Your efforts have given us a peaceful and secure environment for academic and social activities,” he added, noting that no incidents of crime have been recorded near the university’s campuses since its inception nearly six years ago.

Receiving the award on behalf of Tompolo, Dr. Paul Bebenimibo, his media consultant, expressed delight in the recognition. 

According to him, “It is heartwarming to see the seed planted growing strong,” said Bebenimibo, who is also a lecturer at Delta State University, Abraka. 

He described Tompolo as a man filled with kindness and a rare leader.Bebenimibo urged university staff to continue striving for excellence. Saying, “I encourage you to give your best in elevating this institution to new heights. Together, we can continue the legacy of making NMU a beacon of learning in Nigeria.”

The event celebrated the deep bond between Tompolo and the university, as well as his impact on both the institution and the surrounding community.
