Dangote Donates N1.5Bn to Support Maiduguri Flood Victims

Aliko Dangote, Africa’s richest man and Chairman of the Dangote Group, has donated N1.5 billion to support flood relief efforts in Borno State.

The donation includes N1 billion to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and N500 million to the Borno State Government, aimed at assisting those affected by the devastating floods.

During his visit to Maiduguri, Dangote stated the importance of collective efforts in rebuilding the flood-ravaged region.

“Rebuilding after such a catastrophe requires a concerted effort from all of us. The government cannot do it alone, and we must all come together to support those who have lost so much,” he said.

Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, expressed deep gratitude for Dangote’s prompt and generous donation, noting the significance of the funds in restoring normalcy to the affected communities.

“We are truly thankful for Alhaji Dangote’s compassion and his quick response to our plight. This contribution will greatly aid our efforts to rebuild homes, infrastructure, and livelihoods,” Governor Zulum stated.

The donation comes as part of a larger effort to mitigate the suffering of residents displaced by the flood, which destroyed homes, businesses, and vital infrastructure in Maiduguri and surrounding areas. Dangote’s financial support is expected to help accelerate recovery efforts in the state, providing much-needed relief to thousands of residents.

The flooding in Maiduguri has been one of the worst in recent history, with thousands of residents losing their homes and sources of livelihood while the state government and relief agencies continue to work on rebuilding and resettlement projects.
