The House of Representatives is taking steps to address the non-implementation of a presidential directive to remove universities and other tertiary institutions from the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS).
This issue was discussed during a meeting between the House Committee on University Education, led by Chairman Abubakar Fulata, and the Conference of Vice Chancellors in Abuja.
The directive, approved by President Bola Tinubu, was meant to ease administrative challenges within universities, allowing them to operate independently of the IPPIS, which has been criticized for bureaucratic delays, especially in recruitment processes.
Despite the directive, universities still rely on IPPIS for salary payments and other operations.
Fulata expressed optimism that the problem will soon be resolved, as the House is committed to ensuring the smooth running of universities.
This follows the July 2024 Federal Executive Council directive to remove universities from the IPPIS platform, a move aimed at promoting university autonomy and improving efficiency.
