FG Approves Promotion of Over 20,000 Personnel in Immigration, Civil Defence, Others

The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced the immediate promotion of 20,867 senior personnel across various ranks in the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS). Promotions have also been approved for officers in the Federal Fire Service (FFS).

Speaking on Friday, September 13, the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, revealed the government’s decision, highlighting that the promotions included special recognition for select officers. “Two officers from the Nigeria Correctional Service, four from the Nigeria Immigration Service, two from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and one from the Federal Fire Service have received special promotions,” he stated.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo, represented at the media briefing by Alhaji Ja’afaru Ahmed, Secretary of the Board of the Services, detailed the distribution of promotions: “5,329 officers have been promoted within the Nigeria Correctional Service, 5,112 in the Nigeria Immigration Service, 9,937 in the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and 489 in the Federal Fire Service.”

He emphasised that these promotions span several ranks, including Inspector/Assistant Superintendent, Controllers, Comptrollers, and Commandants, reflecting the government’s commitment to the welfare and career growth of personnel in the four services under the Ministry of Interior.

The Minister also announced the introduction of a new training curriculum for the Federal Fire Service training institutions, as well as the approval of a new Scheme of Service for the organisation. 

“The government has approved the implementation of a new training curriculum and Scheme of Service for the Federal Fire Service,” Dr. Tunji-Ojo added.

Additionally, the Minister noted that efforts are underway to conclude the 2023/24 recruitment exercise for the Federal Fire Service before the end of this month.
