Fubara to Deliver First General Hospital in Wike’s LGA

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has announced plans to deliver the first-ever General Hospital in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, the hometown of his political rival, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, within the next eight months.

Despite political differences, the Governor is determined to prioritise health infrastructure in the area.

Governor Fubara, while inspecting ongoing projects, explained the rationale behind his decision saying, “I noticed the absence of a General Hospital facility in Obio/Akpor and decided to make it available so that the people can access the needed health services.”

Accompanied by the Chairman of Monier Construction Company, Senator John Azuta Mbata, and the Rivers State Commissioner for Works, Barrister Elloka Tasie-Amadi, the Governor outlined his administration’s health priorities.

“We are doing two projects here: first, the model Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, and second, a new General Hospital.

“There is no General Hospital in Obio/Akpor, so we are building a standard facility for the residents,” he said.

Expressing satisfaction with the progress, he added, “It’s not up to one month since this project was awarded, and you can see the extent of work already done. I am optimistic we will deliver this project in the next eight months.”

Governor Fubara also announced plans for a world-class Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital to replace the existing facility, which he deemed outdated.

“We decided to build a Modern Psychiatric Hospital to address the growing issue of mental health challenges in our society,”

he said. “The new facility will effectively manage neurotic and psychotic conditions.”

The Governor reaffirmed his commitment to delivering quality healthcare facilities and services, stressing that no investment in critical infrastructure is too great.

“We are focused on ensuring the good health of our people who deserve the best from their government,” he emphasised.

During the inspection, a large crowd from Rumuigbo Community, including children, youth, and the elderly, gathered at the project site to sing praise songs and celebrate Governor Fubara’s efforts to improve healthcare in the area and across the state.
